Backgammon is a unique blend of strategy and luck that has intrigued and enticed for thousands of years. Backgammon players are part of a grand tradition stretching all the way from Persia where players played a strikingly similar game by the name of Nard. Today, smart players don't bother with the stone blocks. They whip out their iPad with FamilyBackgammon installed and start playing in seconds, anywhere they feel like.

Backgammon players race to be the first to move their chips around the board into their home zone. Their home zone, located immediately in front of them and on the right, is the gateway to moving their chips off the board entirely. The first player to move all of their chips off the board wins.
To get there though is a perilous undertaking. Any chip left on its own may be captured by the player, put into "jail" and must wait to start its trek around the board all over again. This poses some unique strategic challenges as each player must decide based on how the game is moving at that particular moment which chips to move and how far. Should he race for the finish or keep his chips stacked up, waiting for a moment to strike at his opponent's exposed chips? That's enough to get you started, but check out the full rules at wikipedia!.
